There are three boys’ and girls’ basketball games happening tonight with major impact on this year’s Moore League championship and playoff scenarios. Here’s our breakdown.
Moore League Boys’ Basketball Championship Scenarios
Long Beach Poly (19-8, 10-1) travels to Millikan and will clinch at least a share of the championship with a win. If Lakewood loses to Jordan and Poly wins the Jackrabbits would have sole possession.
Lakewood (20-7, 10-1) will visit Jordan and will clinch at least a share of the championship with a win. If Poly loses to Millikan and Lakewood wins the Lancers would have sole possession.
Moore League Boys’ Basketball Playoff Scenarios
(3rd & 4th place receive automatic playoff berths)
Cabrillo (15-12, 6-5 Moore League)
Win vs. Wilson + Jordan Loss: 3rd place
Win vs. Wilson + Jordan Win: Tied for 3rd place
Loss vs. Wilson + Jordan Win: Tied for 4th place. Play-in Game vs. Wilson on Friday.
Loss vs. Wilson + Jordan Loss: 3-way tie for 3rd place (Envelope draw for 3rd place; play-in game for 4th place on Friday between remaining 2 teams)
Jordan (13-14, 6-5 Moore League)
Win vs. Lakewood + Cabrillo Loss: 3rd place
Win vs. Lakewood + Cabrillo Win: Tied for 3rd place
Loss vs. Lakewood + Cabrillo Win: 4th place
Loss vs. Lakewood + Cabrillo Loss: 3-way tie for 3rd place
Wilson (15-12, 5-6 Moore League)
Win vs. Cabrillo + Jordan Loss: 3-way tie for 3rd place
Win vs. Cabrillo + Jordan Win: Tied for 4th place. Play-in Game vs. Cabrillo on Friday.
Loss vs. Cabrillo: 5th place (will need an at-large bid for playoffs)
Moore League Girls’ Basketball Playoff Scenario
Long Beach Poly (18-9, 11-0) has already clinched sole possession of another league title. They can make it an undefeated one with a win at Millikan tonight.
Moore League Girls’ Basketball Playoff Scenarios
(3rd & 4th place receive automatic playoff berths)
Lakewood (22-5, 9-2) will clinch second place with a win tonight over Jordan
Jordan (19-7, 8-3) could force a second-place tie by beating Lakewood. As they’re in different divisions, both teams would enter the postseason with a two-seed. If the Panthers lose, they will still have sole possession of third place.
Millikan (15-12, 6-5) has clinched sole possession of fourth place regardless of the outcome of their game with Poly tonight, and will receive the league’s fourth and final guaranteed playoff spot.
