When the Millikan wrestling team celebrates its seniors they do it big and Thursday night was no different as the Rams hosted Wilson with friends, family and alum all in attendance.
The Rams did not disappoint as they swept the Bruins in both girls and boys matches. The girls started the evening with a 66-12 victory over the Bruins led by a big win by sophomore Izzy Martinez against the Bruins Hailey Fenton.
It was one more milestone for Martinez as she looks to become another storied wrestler that wins a Moore League title each of her four years at Millikan.
“I’ve been working really hard for it,” Martinez said. “I won Moore League last year and one of my goals is to do that all four years.”
It was an impressive win for the Rams as nine of the matches ended by pin. The Millikan girls will finish in second place in the Moore League after their early league match against Poly went down to tiebreakers.
On the boys side, Wilson’s Jacob Jenner gave the Bruins an early 12-0 lead after an impressive pin.
However, the Rams were on a mission Thursday night as they won 10 matches by pin including one by senior Daniel Kroll who is looking forward to next week’s match against Lakewood.
“This year has been tough for a lot of the guys on the team,” Kroll said. “A lot of our guys our banged up coming back from injuries, but the best thing about wrestling as a sport is that we can all come back. We can all come back stronger than ever and that’s what I’ve waited for this team to do now and in the next few years. I’m super excited to see where they can go.”
Millikan will be heading to Lakewood next week in a dual meet that will decide the boys Moore League title. On the girls side, they will look to lock up second place.
