The562’s coverage of Millikan athletics in the 2023-24 school year is sponsored by Curtis Boyer.
When the 2023-24 Moore League boys’ soccer schedule was released last year Millikan had this week circled. Games against Wilson, Lakewood and Cabrillo in a five day span would be imperative in repeating as league champions.
It couldn’t have gone much better thanks to senior forward Aaron de Leon, who scored five goals this week to keep the Rams (10-2-4, 5-0-1, 16 points) in first place in the Moore League.
“We’re coming in confident and expecting nothing but first place,” de Leon said.
Millikan beat Wilson 3-1 on Monday after de Leon scored the first game-winning goal, and then he scored the go-ahead goal on Wednesday in a 2-2 draw with Lakewood. On Friday, he scored both goals in a 2-1 win against Cabrillo.
“His movement is great,” Millikan coach Jeff Schofield said. “He’s got decent height, he isn’t a big imposing figure, but he’s really good on set pieces.”
Next week, Millikan hosts Compton on Wednesday before visiting Poly on Friday.
