There were a couple second-half opportunities for Long Beach State men’s basketball to pull even at San Diego State on Tuesday night, but the hosts held on and handed the Beach an 88-76 loss.

LBSU (1-2) was sharp offensively while shooting 50 percent from the field and 41 percent from 3-point range, but foul trouble and getting out rebounded 34-24 was its undoing. SDSU pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.

Marcus Tsohonis scored a team-high 17 points, and AJ George came off the bench to score 15 points. Aboubacar Traore once again contributed all over the floor with 14 points, eight assists and six rebounds.

SDSU forward Jaedon LeDee came off the bench to record a double-double with a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds.

After opening the game on an 11-3 run, SDSU (2-1) led by as many as 15 in the first half. Tsohonis sparked the comeback and LBSU only trailed 58-55 with just over 12 minutes to play. However, SDSU answered with an 8-2 run to get its lead back to double digits. Lassina Traore and Jadon Jones fouled out after that run.

On Friday, LBSU will visit Michigan for the first time in program history. Tipoff is scheduled for 4pm PT with live coverage on B1G+.
