HIGH SCHOOL
Darius Curry, Long Beach Poly Football
Long Beach Poly senior Darius Curry had a historic game against Jordan, throwing 27/41 for 359 yards and seven touchdowns. That ties Poly’s single-game passing touchdown record with Josh Love and Chris Lewis.
Victoria Valenzuela, St. Anthony Golf
St. Anthony junior Victoria Valenzuela made history again for the school becoming the Del Rey League MVP and Champion for the second year in a row. She shot a phenomenal round of (+3) 75 at Wilson Golf Course this Thursday.
Aaya McLyn, Long Beach Poly Flag Football
Poly quarterback Aaya McLyn led the Jackrabbits to an undefeated Moore League championship last week, as Poly took down second-place Jordan 28-0 with four total touchdowns from McLyn.
Vivian Hall, Wilson Tennis
Vivian Hall didn’t quite accomplish her goal of winning the Moore League single title, as she fell to CAMS’ Mandy Oliveros. But Hall did make it to the singles championship match for the second consecutive year, representing the Bruins.
Babi Gubbins/Chloe Pravednikov, Wilson Volleyball
Wilson made a run to the CIF-SS semifinals, and wouldn’t have done it without a crazy five-set win at Newport Harbor. Their senior stars came up big, as they combined for 50 kills in the quarterfinal win on the road.
COLLEGE
Jasmine Leovao, Long Beach State Golf
Sophomore Jasmine Leovao broke a 15-year old record held by LBSU Athletics Hall of Famer Kay Hoey, shooting an 8-under par 64 in the second round at The Clash at Boulder Creek for the lowest score in program history, helping the Beach win their second straight tournament title.
