HIGH SCHOOL
Darius Curry, Long Beach Poly Football
Darius Curry had a special performance in a big win for Poly over Compton. The clock ran for the second, third and fourth quarter but Curry was still incredibly efficient, going a perfect 8/8 for 153 yards and five touchdowns on Senior Night.
Kade Casillas, Lakewood Football
Lakewood sophomore quarterback Kade Casillas had a great night in a win over Wilson on Friday. Casillas was 17/25 for 219 yards with three passing touchdowns, as well as a rushing touchdown as well.
JJ Nielsen, Jordan Football
Jordan quarterback JJ Nielsen had a great night for the Panthers in a win over Cabrillo, throwing for 479 yards and five touchdowns.
Wyatt Mitchell, Wilson Water Polo
Wilson’s Wyatt Mitchell came up clutch for the Bruins in a narrow Moore League championship-clinching victory over Poly. Mitchell had a hat trick to lead Wilson in scoring in the win.
Samantha Shaw, Wilson Golf
Wilson’s Samantha Shaw won the Moore League girls’ golf individual championship last week in thrilling fashion, finally grabbing the trophy after two playoff holes in the dark.
Kristen Dear, Long Beach Poly Volleyball
Long Beach Poly junior Kristen Dear came up big in a pair of playoffs win for the Jackrabbits last week. She had 14 kills and four blocks in a sweep of Crean Lutheran and she had 12 kills (on perfect 1.000 hitting) in a sweep of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.
Simrin Adams, Wilson Volleyball
Wilson freshman Simrin Adams continues to shine as one of the best frosh players in Southern California. She put up 11 kills on just 18 swings in Wilson’s big win on Saturday in the second round.
COLLEGE
Katie Kennedy, Long Beach State Volleyball
Katie Kennedy was efficient on both sides of the ball averaging 3.82 kills per set on a .606 attack percentage (23-3-33), while also posting 2.00 blocks per set. Kennedy recorded 12 kills on a .688 clip (12-1-16) and five blocks at UC Irvine. Then logged 11 kills on a .529 hitting percentage (11-2-17) to go along with seven blocks against Cal State Fullerton.
