Moore League coaching vet Duane Haldeman is coaching the Bruins’ inaugural team, and he’s got the youngest roster in the league. Sixteen of the 22 players in the Bruins’ program to start the year are freshman, and many of them are first-time competitive athletes. Haldeman had his group playing Friday Night Lights flag football in the Spring and Summer, trying to up their experience level.
“We’re young, but we have some very talented athletes,” said Haldeman, who has put together a tough schedule to season his roster.
Five standout freshmen are Coco Gonzalez, Jordyn Jefferson, and Emmalie Arzate at the skill positions, QB Jayme Perez Zamora, a sprinter who Haldeman says has a huge upside, and Norah Zamora, Jayme’s twin sister who is playing all over for the Bruins.
“We’ve taken some tough losses and they hurt, but we will be better for it,” said Haldeman.
