The Cabrillo Jaguars (1-1) are looking to rebound after last week’s home opening loss to Carpinteria. Looking to stay in the positive and as far away from Murphy’s Law as possible, Cabrillo faces Verbum Dei, Los Angeles (0-1).
Self-inflicted wounds hurt the Jaguars last week along with injuries, and like head coach Shane Gonzales said, the Jaguars “need to get back to the basics.”
It will be a battle of mental toughness and physical conditioning, as each team holds smaller rosters with multiple guys playing both ways. It will also be a big night for freshman quarterback Fernardo Leanos, who could get his first varsity start, after senior quarterback Luis Haro was unfortunately injured in last week’s game.
Upperclassmen, the running game, and the entire offensive line will now have elevated roles, on and off the field, in this game and the rest of the season to help their team and their young signal caller.
Kickoff is at 7pm at Cabrillo High School.
