The Cabrillo Jaguars have continued to progress under fourth-year coach James Moanapukeahi Kainoa Jr. and his staff. The Jags are in rebuilding mode this season and Kainoa said that numbers on the Westside continue to be a struggle.
“We have built a culture here where our volleyball players are graduating and moving on to great college,” he said. “We are using volleyball as the motivation that binds us together both on the court and especially in the classroom.”
Kainoa credited the Cabrillo administration and support staff for standing behind his program for the last three years as he’s progressed it to last year’s 13-13 overall record, tied with Jordan at 3-9 for fifth place in the Moore League.
Key returners will be OH Monze Guzman and DS American Martinez, the Jags’ captains. Middle blockers Aliyah Atkins and Kaelyn Bush are both back and setters Elizabeth Miranda and Kira Tepa are as well. Other contributors will include Jazmine Ramos, Kali Tilkaran and transfer Jodi Thompson, along with freshman Janae Canty.
