The Cabrillo Jaguars will look to improve to 2-0 on the season as they open their home schedule against Carpinteria High on Friday night at 7 p.m.
The Jags are coming off a 36-8 road win at Hawkins a week ago, and will look to win their sixth consecutive non-league contest on the field with a win on Friday.
Cabrillo ran the ball well in their opener, as Dylan Edwards collected a pair of rushing touchdowns. Fellow running backs Keewane Foster and Antonio Elam also added scores for the Jags offense, who will surely look to control the line of scrimmage once again.
Carpinteria will need to travel a little more than 100 miles for Friday’s contest. The Warriors are located just south of Santa Barbara, and will be playing their season opener against the Jags.
Carpinteria went 4-6 last season, with one of their wins coming via forfeit. Their three wins all came on the road and were all close games, winning by a combined 11 points across those three wins.
While Cabrillo should have a size advantage in this one, the Warriors do have experienced playmakers back on the roster, led by senior quarterback Talon Trumble, who ran for 824 yards and nine scores last season. As a passer, he only averaged 8 passing attempts per game, throwing for 462 yards and three TDs.
This game will likely be decided at the line of scrimmage, where Cabrillo head coach Shane Gonzales has an experienced, cohesive, and physically imposing group of linemen to rely on.
