This week’s Long Beach football schedule is full of rematches from exciting non-league games last year, and Jordan visiting Peninsula this afternoon is certainly one of them. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. because the Peninsula field doesn’t have lights.
Last year in this game, Jordan Washington’s opened the scoring with an 89-yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage, and his grand finale was a game-sealing interception to preserve Jordan’s 41-35 victory. As a team, Jordan ran the ball 19 times for 269 yards (14.2 YPC) and four touchdowns.
Peninsula is coming off a 42-0 season opening loss at Notre Dame Sherman Oaks.
Last week, Jordan junior quarterback Jarret Nielsen completed 30 of his 37 attempts for 548 yards and five touchdowns while leading the Panthers to a 59-24 win over visiting North Torrance in the season opener.
“It’s working so well because we believe in ourselves and we’ve become a family,” Washington said. “Last year we struggled with that. This group is more focused and ready to be playmakers on this team.”
