Compton is looking to repeat the feat and score a big season opening win at Dymally tonight. Last year, they beat the Challengers 52-22 in one of only three losses for Dymally.
With a thin roster full of players ready to prove themselves, coach Clavin Bryant is ready to be patient and play this season by ear.
“We have to wait and see what new guys do once the spotlight is on,” he said.
Dymally moved from 8-man football to 11-man football in 2021 and has gone 18-4 in the last two seasons. They have moved over to the Coliseum League and are ranked 15th in the CIF City Section, according to MaxPreps.
Compton hasn’t lost its season opener since 2017.
“We’re feeling good and strong,” Compton seniors lineman Orlando Guzman said. “We worked on our speed and football IQ so we need to stay focused and disciplined. I love coach Bryant because he’s helped us a lot. I was messing around my freshman year and he showed me the path.”
