The Jaguars hit the road tonight to face Hawkins in Los Angeles, looking to start their 2023 season with a win.
The Jaguars are now in their fourth year under head coach Shane Gonzales, who helped guide the team to a 4-0 start last year before forfeits dropped those wins. Nonetheless, the team has built their confidence playing winnable nonleague schedules.
“This year we’ve got way more confidence than we had last year,” said senior offensive lineman Andrew Ramirez Garcia. “We were coming off a season where we barely won one game, and then the next year we got four wins, and we got them taken away. I feel like this year we have more confidence. We know we can do that again. And having a bigger roster too, is boosting our conference. I think we could really surprise some people this year.”
The Jagus will look to QB Luis Haro to get the offense going tonight with sophomore D’Jon Pittman back at receiver, with linebacker Dylan Edwards anchoring the defense.
Cabrillo will host Carpenteria on the Westside next week in their home opener.
