At the end of every school year we look back to reminisce on the accomplishments that defined Long Beach sports over the last 12 months. This year has been extra special because of the variety of schools and sports represented on this list— which is a hallmark of our diverse city and athletic community.
No. 9 – Long Beach Poly Starts New Era For Girls’ Flag Football
The newest sport coming to Long Beach high schools in the upcoming school year will be girls’ flag football. Long Beach Poly got its program off to an early start during the 2022-23 school year, playing in the inaugural League of Champions, hosted by the LA Rams and Chargers. Poly even got to visit SoFi Stadium for an exclusive tour of the facility.
The Jackrabbits had a thrilling run to the championship game, where they came up just short against familiar gridiron foe, Serra High from Gardena.
“It meant a lot to get to be the first to do this, I’m just proud of our team,” said Poly’s Aniya Wilson. “I want to continue to pursue the sport and help pave a way for other little girls who want to play football.”
