There’s no more historic high school basketball program in California than the Long Beach Poly boys’ squad. The Jackrabbits have won 2,140 games–300+ more than the next team–and have produced nine NBA players, tied for most in state history. That total of pros includes Peyton Watson, who just became the Jackrabbits’ second NBA champ alum, winning a ring with the Nuggets to join Jordan Bell, who won a title with the Warriors.
The Jackrabbits will be celebrating that unique and rich history this weekend at the inaugural Long Beach Poly Basketball Reunion, which will be hosted Sunday from 5-9pm at the El Dorado Park Golf Course. Tickets are $40 and the event is open to all–they can be purchased at https://www.reunitelbpolybball.com/.
Proceeds from the event will go to support longtime Poly assistant coach Erroll Parker’s Project REBOUND, which provides tutoring services and academic support to Poly basketball players and other students. The program also helps teach public speaking skills and takes students on college field trips.
“We want to have an event to help bring our community together,” said Parker. “We’re hoping to make it an annual tradition.”
Many Jackrabbits have already signed up, including legendary coach Ron Palmer, who will be flying in from the East Coast to attend the reunion. Dinner will be served at the event, with Naples Rib Company catering.
