Long Beach State closed out the 2023 college baseball season with a 7-1 victory over UC Davis on Saturday afternoon on Bohl Diamond at Blair Field. The win completes a weekend sweep for the Dirtbags, who have won seven of their last nine games and end the year winning three consecutive series.
Junior catcher Connor Burns delivered the big blow of the game, smacking a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to blow the game open and end the scoring. That gives Burns 14 home runs and 50 RBIs for the season.
Senior Dalton Ponce earned the win on Senior Day, tossing three scoreless innings with 6 punchouts. Fellow seniors Jake Rons (3 IP), Josh Haley (1 IP), and Ethan Clough (2 IP) covered the rest of the innings while holding the Aggies to just one run.
The Dirtbags finish the season 33-22 with a 17-13 Big West record. The 33 wins are the most for LBSU since 2017.
