The last time Cabrillo boys’ soccer reached a CIF Southern Section quarterfinal it was 2019 and Eduardo Mosqueda led the Jaguars to a State Regional title.

His younger brother, Nathan Mosqueda, is now taking the wheel for Cabrillo and his two goals on Friday night carried the Jaguars past Mission Viejo 3-1 and into the quarterfinals.

“I want to do the same thing (as my brother) and I want to go to the CIF Finals and try to win the ring,” Mosqueda said.

Mosqueda scored the first two goals on Friday, and scored the game winner in the last minutes of the first-round win in the first round.

“His level of training has been consistent,” Noyes said of Mosqueda. “He came here to play indoor with us when he was in 6th and 7th grade. You could see then that he had vision. His head is always up. His change of pace is good, change of direction is good, close control is good… He has a little bit of everything.”

Mosqueda thinks his team was better prepared for this game because of the first-round trip to Claremont.

“(The first round) game was more physical and I think we learned from it,” Mosqueda said. “Usually in the home games we play better in front of our fans and we were just touching the ball better than that team.”

Cabrillo took a 3-0 lead into the second half after Victor Orozco came off the bench to score a howling goal in the 25th minute.

“The first half was the most complete half we’ve played all year, by far,” Noyes said. “They were super loose warming up just having fun.”

The Jaguars will travel to Newport Harbor on Wednesday.

“There’s still more work to do,” Mosqueda said. “We have to work hard everyday in practice and play our game.”
