Cabrillo Basketball Off to Hot Start

The562’s coverage of Cabrillo Athletics is sponsored by the Cohn Family.

The Cabrillo boys’ basketball team is off to a hot start under first-year coach Chris Spencer, whose team made it their goal to win a program-best 14 games this season. The Jaguars are halfway there with a 7-4 record led by top scorer Deshon McMiller, who is pacing Cabrillo to their best start in years.

Moore League play begins next week and it will be interesting to see where the Jags fall in league competition. Their excellent start earned them the No. 5 ranking in this week’s CIF-SS Division 5 poll. The Jags are in a lower division than any other league team, but are also the only Moore League team ranked this week.

The Jags have won five of their last six and will look to get another win Thursday at home against Whittier at 7pm.
