CIF Baseball: Lakewood Blanks Moorpark Behind Eyanson’s Gem

The562’s high school baseball and softball coverage for the 2022 season is sponsored by LBUSD Board of Education Member Megan Kerr.

The rest of the CIF Southern Section is in the process of learning what those in the Long Beach area have known for months: Anthony Eyanson is legit. The senior starting pitcher tossed a complete game shutout on Thursday to lead his Lakewood Lancers past Moorpark, 1-0, in the opening round of the Division 2 baseball playoffs.

Eyanson allowed just two baserunners on a single and a walk, striking out eight different Musketeers in his complete game effort. He faced just two batters over the minimum.

The Lancers didn’t do much offensively with just two hits of their own, but they did enough to survive and advance. Lakewood scored its lone run in the top of the fourth inning as catcher Kane Yonamine came in to score the game’s only run.

Yonamine had one of the two Lancer singles on the afternoon (along with Joey Gann), and also drew a walk to reach base twice. He was active on the basepaths, stealing a pair of bases for Lakewood. The visitors swiped four bags in total, with Jared Stephenson and Eyanson accounting for the other thefts.

The Lancers will be hosting their second round game next Tuesday, facing off with Norco.
