There’s almost a half-century of history behind the CIF Southern Section’s championship football luncheon, which has been held for the last several years at the Grand in Long Beach. Each year, the finalists for each CIF-SS football divisional championship gather to have lunch, be celebrated by their peers, and hear a message from the program’s featured speaker.
Last year, the tradition was cut short due to COVID-19.
“We didn’t get to do this last year for the first time in–nobody knows how long,” said CIF-SS commissioner Rob Wigod.
Four local teams were on hand to be recognized, and got to hear NFL Hall of Famer and Chargers legend LaDanian Tomlinson impart some words of wisdom.
“What will be your greatest moment?” Tomlinson asked the young players gathered. “I’ve had my finest hour. You all are still searching for yours.”
