HIGH SCHOOL

Devin Samples, Long Beach Poly Football

Poly junior Devin Samples had the game of his life on Friday against Millikan, as the definition of a workhorse back. Samples had 35 carries for 284 yards and four touchdowns in the Jackrabbits’ victory.

Brayden Downen, Lakewood Football

Lakewood quarterback Brayden Downen didn’t have his best game against Jordan last week, and the Lancers trailed for most of the game. But Downen was the hero in red as he scored a two-yard go-ahead touchdown with less than a minute left.

Laura Williams, Lakewood Volleyball

Lakewood senior and Oregon State commit Laura Williams had a sensational week for the Lancers, leading them to wins over Long Beach Poly and Mayfair, both in sweeps. She had 15 kills, three aces, six blocks, and 10 digs in the six sets.

COLLEGE

Zack Leets, LBCC Football

LBCC receiver Zack Leets was a bright spot for the Vikings in a loss to San Diego Mesa last weekend. Leets had five catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns. The Vikings had 266 yards passing, with almost half of them going to Leets.

Lena Silano, Long Beach State Soccer

Silano scored both goals in LBSU’s 2-1 conference-opening win over UC San Diego, including the game-winner with one second left on the clock. Scored the first goal of the game against Hawaii giving her three on the week and seven on the year, almost halfway to the single-season record of 16.
