Long Beach State Volleyball Welcomes Fans Back With Senior Night Sweep

Move over cardboard cutouts…real fans are back inside the Walter Pyramid.

Saturday night marked the first time Long Beach State hosted fans in the Pyramid since last March. Men’s volleyball welcomed their fans back as they hosted the Cal State Northridge Matadors in their last regular season conference matchup. The Beach closed the regular season out with a sweep victory

On all sides of the Pyramid you could see real live fans immersed in the action amongst some left-over cardboard cutouts; an indication of some return to normalcy. Speakers that once played mock crowd noises were replaced with authentic cheers, echoing applauses and some heckles for the visitors

Friends and family were able to encourage their loved ones from the bleachers instead of in their living room. Parents got to celebrate the seniors as they took the floor at home one final time.

Despite fan capacity being limited, the people in attendance made sure they were heard, and the Beach fed off the crowd noise in the sweep, finishing with 38 kills and nine aces.

The sweep against the Matadors clinched the number three seed going into the Big West conference tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii next Thursday. The Beach will face No. 6 UC Irvine at 7:35 p.m. on Thursday night and, if they advance, would face UC Santa Barbara at the same time on Friday evening.
