Playing far from home in their CIF-SS Division 1 opener, the Long Beach Poly girls’ soccer team fell behind 2-0, and things were looking bleak. The Jackrabbits tied it up, fell behind again, tied it up again, and then finally put in the game-winner with 10 minutes left on the clock to shock Temecula Valley, 4-3.
“Awesome game,” said Poly coach Anthony Perez.
The Jackrabbits got two goals and two assists from Aniah Cutler, their Washington State signee forward. Olivia D’Anna had a goal and two assists. The game-winning score came on a free kick from Morgan King to Cutler, whose shot was blocked and fell to Isabella Yakel, who headed in the winner.
Poly will host Los Osos in the CIF-SS Division 1 second round Saturday at 3 p.m.
