Both Long Beach State basketball teams lost nail bitters against UC Davis on Thursday night in Big West Conference action.
The LBSU men fell behind early in their first conference game at Walter Pyramid, and despite coming all the way back, the Beach fell to the Aggies 85-82.
Freshman Joshua Morgan had his first career double-double with 10 points, a career-high 14 rebounds and three blocks. Sophomore Chance Hunter scored a career-high 28 points.
LBSU (6-13, 1-2) fell behind by 20 points in the first half, in part due to foul trouble, but UC Davis (7-1, 1-1) went cold from the field and the Beach played its way back into the game.
A Morgan basket in the paint tied the game at 52-52 with 9:40 left with an opportunity for a three-point play. UC Davis responded and pushed the lead back up to double-digits in the closing minutes.
LBSU hosts Cal State Fullerton at 4:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the women’s team on Saturday.
The LBSU women also lost to UC Davis 57-55 on the road after missing a last-second layup.
LBSU junior guard Shanaijah Davison led all scorers with 24 points, marking her third 20-plus point showing of the season, while Justina King added 15 points for the Beach (6-10, 1-2).
