With a 10 a.m. tip off to start the Ron Massey Tip Off Classic on Saturday, the Long Beach Wilson boys’ basketball team didn’t have much time to think about its disappointing loss at Compton on Friday night.
Jackson Barnhill and the Bruins served up a breakfast special as they defeated St. Paul 75-47 in the Long Beach City College Hall of Champions Gym.
“We were all a little disappointed,” Barnhill said after the Bruins gave up a 20-point lead against Compton. “I woke up a little early and got a good breakfast in, so I think everyone else did the same and everyone came out with a good positive mindset to try and just forget what happened last night.”
Barnhill was a force for the Bruins as he made the most of his size advantage on his way to a game-high 25 points.
“We knew they didn’t have size, so we just pounded it in the middle,” Barnhill said.
Nico Colchico and Tommy Brascia scored 10 and 9 points, respectively.
“For us to come out here and take care of business against St. Paul was telling for me, as a coach and for this team,” Wilson coach James Boykin said. “To let (last night’s loss) go, and be engaged and locked in and be able to have a good performance.”
The Bruins will be back in Moore League action when they host Millikan on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
