Aug. 15, 2020, seems like a long ways away, but it’s not that far off — and it’s an important date. That’s when the high school girls’ volleyball season begins, and it promises to be a special one in Long Beach. Poly has a national sophomore of the year finalist in Adonia Faumuina, who was named All-CIF in Division 1 as a 10th grader; the Jackrabbits also return Rylie McGinest, another sophomore stud for Poly this year.
Meanwhile, Lakewood has a loaded group coming back as well including All-CIF honoree Laura Williams, also a 10th grader this year. Of the six 9th/10th graders named All-CIF in Division 1 and 2, two of them play in the Moore League. Poly and Lakewood will face each other on Sept. 1 and 24 in a pair of rivalry matches that will have big CIF-SS ranking implications.
