The Long Beach State men’s basketball team suffered its biggest loss of the season on Saturday at Florida as the Gators ran away with a 102-63 victory.
Florida (8-4) jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the first timeout and led 59-31 at halftime. The 39-point defeat is the largest margin for the Beach (4-11) since losing by 37 at Arizona on Nov. 24 as part of the Wooden Legacy. LBSU followed that game with a 66-65 win over Providence four days later.
Chance Hunter scored a team-high 20 points for the Beach. Colin Slater and Michael Carter III each chipped in 10 points. LBSU shot 37.3 percent from the field while allowing Florida to shoot 53 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range.
The Beach hasn’t won a road game since beating UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 28.
LBSU will host Cal State Los Angeles on Saturday (Jan. 4) in the last nonconference game of the season.
