St. Anthony second-year coach Matt Dold is counting on a strong class of eight seniors to continue implementing his style on and off the field.
“Last year they were introduced to a new program, playing style and expectation where accountability is first and winning comes second,” Dold said. “A successful season for us will be to finish in the top two in league and advance out of the first round of playoffs.”
St. Anthony hasn’t won a playoff game since 2016, and are in Division 7 this year.
“We all have a good mentally this year,” senior captain William McGee said.
McGee and Nick Sparks will be the team captains, but Taylor Griffiths, Ronnie Squier and Andrew Navarro are also key returners.
Dold is also looking for huge contributions from talented freshman Andrew Kamienski, Brandon Lardizibal and Brandon Sanchez.
McGee said that taking care of the little things will be a key to success this season.
“We leaned last year that we need to take better care of ourselves,” McGee said. “We had a lot of injuries that maybe could’ve been prevented with better stretching or better preparations for the game.”
Dold said the Camino Real League games against Mary Star of the Sea and St. Genevieve will be the most important games of the season. The Saints finished third behind their rivals last year.
