The Moore League schedule isn’t kind to Lakewood Lancers soccer this season. They have to face Cabrillo and Millikan at home in the first two league games next month.
“We are going to get pressured against two quality programs,” third-year coach Alex Diaz said. “We will be tested and see where we stand.”
The Lancers were disappointed by finishing the in bottom half of the league standings and missing the playoffs last season with an experienced squad. Team captains Angel Duran, Rogelio Guerrero and Jonathan Guerrero are the most important returners this year in a wide open starting lineup.
Diaz said sophomores Santiago Sandoval and Alberto Munoz will be key additions to the Lancers attack after being called up to varsity at the end of last season.
“Everybody in our league is competitive,” Diaz said. “We just want to be able to compete against the tops teams in our league and make the playoffs.”
Lakewood is in Division 2, and hasn’t won a playoff game in more than 10 years.
