It’s fair to say the Avalon 8-Man football season didn’t go as the Lancers planned. They had to replace their quarterback weeks before the season, they stumbled in the preseason and then they lost an Express League championship game in the regular season finale.
However, Avalon (5-4) still finds itself in the postseason with eyes on a second CIF Southern Section 8-Man Division 1 title in the last five years. The Lancers host Riverside County Education Academy on Catalina today in the first round.
Junior receiver Adalberto Martinez has been the statistical story of the Long Beach football season. He leads the nation in receiving yards (1,830) for 8-Man football players, according to MaxPreps. He’s scored 27 touchdowns and also racked up 101 tackles and 10 interceptions on defense this year.
