The Lakewood Country Club hosted the 64th Annual Len Kennett Junior Golf Championships yesterday. Kennett, 92, said there was more than 200 participants from ages 11-18 involved with the tournament.
Kennett, whose junior championship tournament has featured John Merrick and Tiger Woods, among other pros, said last year that he plans to keep putting on the event for as long as he can.
“I think we still do a good job for them,” Kennett said. “We get the biggest entry of any junior tournament in Southern California.”
The first Junior Championship hosted by Kennett was in 1955.
NIKE CAMPS
The Nike Junior Golf Camps are back in Long Beach this summer and El Dorado Golf Course is hosting the last half day session from July 29 to Aug. 2 for boys and girls ages 7-14.
The week of instruction is led by teaching professionals including camp director and Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame member Joe Grohman. The young golfers will be evaluated by the staff to accommodate all skill levels, and receive an amenity package that includes a Nike hat, drawstring bag, SRIXON balls, camp workbook, and graduation certificate.
