On Wednesday, Lakewood High honored 15 student athletes who are going on to play sports at the next level. It was not the first signing day celebration for the Lancers this year, and the end-of-year event is becoming more popular for local schools.
“The NCAA sets their signing days but my own daughter was a student athlete in college now and I know that those dates aren’t always set in stone for athletes and their decisions,” Lakewood athletics director Lisa Busch said. “We want to make sure that we not only celebrate during the year on those big days, but also at the end of the year and include the junior college athletes. It’s just the ideal time to get everyone together to celebrate.”
