For the first time since 2012 and just the second time since 1986, Long Beach Poly’s baseball team will be champions of the Moore League. The Jackrabbits are one game clear of everyone else in the league with just one game to play, clinching at least a share of the league championship thanks to a 10-2 victory over Cabrillo at Blair Field on Tuesday evening.
The Jaguars have been a thorn in Poly’s side the last two years, losing just 1-0 to Poly this year and defeating the Jackrabbits last year. Poly got up quickly and led the whole game tonight, getting a quality start from Tim Fife.
Poly will try to make it a non-shared league title this Thursday when they host Lakewood at 3 p.m. on their campus field. If Poly wins, they’re champions by themselves. If Poly loses and Wilson beats Millikan, the Jackrabbits and Bruins would be co-champions.
Poly won the title in 2012 but hadn’t won prior to that since 1985.
