Cabrillo badminton won an undefeated Moore League championship after defeating Millikan last week, 18-3. It’s the second consecutive Moore League title for the Jaguars badminton program, making them the first team in school history to win back-to-back league titles. This is Cabrillo’s fourth-ever league title (the boys’ soccer team has the other two).
The Jaguars were co-champions of the Moore League last year with Lakewood after splitting their two meetings with the Lancers, but they won it outright after their first undefeated campaign this year.
“It’s been a long time coming after trying so hard to win a championship and coming in second for four years in a row,” said coach Tina Thanh Tran. It’s the eighth year of the Cabrillo program–they finished sixth, then fourth, then second for four years in a row before winning the last two titles.
“We worked hard to earn this achievement, I’m extremely proud of my athletes, they definitely deserve this,” said Tran.
The Jaguars and the other top badminton players in Long Beach will be in action this week at Long Beach Poly at the Moore League finals, with singles taking place on Monday, doubles on Tuesday, and mixed doubles on Wednesday. The action starts at 3 p.m. each day.
