Wilson is returning 14 of 22 starters this year and head coach Mark Ziegenhagen is as confident in his squad as he’s been in years.
“This team reminds me a lot of the team that made a run to the semifinals,” he said, referring to the historic 2016 Bruins season. “There are a lot of kids who have played on varsity since their sophomore year, and it’s a great senior class who were all suited up as freshman for that Semifinal game–they’re eager to win a championship.”
The Bruins have geared their schedule to that end. They open the season up a day early with a Thursday Night Lights matchup at Mayfair on Aug. 22 that the whole community is sure to turn out for, and will play nonleague games against San Jacinto, Huntington Beach, and St. Anthony.
The San Jacinto game replaces San Dimas, because San Jacinto were Division 7 Finalists last year with a 12-2 record, and are likely to move into Division 5 or 6.
“We tried to schedule teams that are in our division or close to it,” said Ziegenhagen. “We feel it will be a great indicator of where we stand in the division and will get us ready for league.”
