Out on the island, Avalon coach Carlos Martinez thinks his team is ready to compete for an Academy League championship.
The Lancers started off 1-0 and are led by sophomore outside hitter Adalberto Martinez.
“We’re in Division 6 this year and expect to be competitive,” said Martinez.
The Lancers will also face a Moore League team this year as they have Cabrillo on the schedule. In addition to Martinez, a big junior class will bolster their title hopes. Pedro Martinez, Dominic Hernandez, and Daniel Silva are among the key players for Avalon.
