It didn’t look like it was going to happen, as the Compton girls’ basketball team fell behind by 13 points in the first quarter. But Compton and head coach Derrick Anderson have been making history all year, and they did it again, coming from behind to beat Palm Desert on the road in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4AA playoffs, 48-44.
It was the school’s first girls’ basketball playoff win in 20 years, according to the Compton Unified School District.
Senior Shayna Sanders once again led the way with 21 points, backed up by 18 points from Janae Owens.
Compton (16-11) unfortunately won’t get a homecoming in the second round, as the lost the coin flip for hosting rights. They will travel to Sultana in Hesperia on Saturday evening.
