St. Anthony is looking to bounce back from a disappointing three-win campaign last year, and coach Brett Minter wants to build from the midfield with freshman Sofia Montealagre, Bella Martin, Tatiana Fernandez and Leeta Squier.
Senior Erin Anderson and junior Isabella Aranda will be the keys up top, and they will be joined by fellow forward Danielle Robinson when the Poly transfer sits out until after the holiday break.
“They’re our three-headed monster up top,” Minter said. “It’s going to be scary who good they can be once they all get together.”
Sophomore Maleah Morales will be a defensive leader at center back, and she is one of the young players getting added to the varsity roster. Minter said he is taking his team for an overnight trip to San Diego to work on team bonding.
“We had a really tough year last year, and ever since the season ended we’ve been working hard,” Minter said. “The players don’t want to experience that again.”
St. Anthony beat Bellflower 3-1 on Monday night in nonleague action as Sofia Goldschmidt scored twice and Squier scored the third goal.
