WEDNESDAY
Long Beach State Men’s Basketball at USC, 8 p.m.
This is the fourth game against a Pac-12 opponent for LBSU, and the first meeting with USC since Mike Caffey’s hit the game-winner in the final seconds at Walter Pyramid five years ago. The Trojans (4-2) have five players averaging double-digit scoring this season, led by senior Bennie Boatwright’s 17.8 points per game. USC beat CSU Bakersfield 90-75 last week. LBSU beat Bakersfield 73-70 in a preseason exhibition.
THURSDAY
High School Boys’ Basketball, 4 p.m.
The early start of Moore League play in December has more local teams playing more tournament games this month. Wilson is playing five games as part of the Godinez Tournament this week before playing in the Artesia Tournament at the beginning of next month. The Bruins will end up playing nine tournament games in 13 days.
Long Beach State Men’s Water Polo vs. UC San Diego, 1 p.m.
The Beach is at Stanford this weekend for the first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1991. LBSU takes on UC San Diego in the quarterfinals, and the winner will face Stanford in the semifinals on Friday. The Beach lost at UCSD 7-5 in September, but LBSU coach Gavin Arroyo said he likes the draw for his team.
High School Soccer, 3 p.m.
The defending Moore League soccer champions will both be in Long Beach today for nonleague action. The Millikan boys are hosting Mira Costa in their second consecutive home game this week, while the Wilson girls host Los Alamitos on its new turf field at 6:30 p.m.
FRIDAY
Long Beach State Women’s Basketball at Montana State, 6 p.m.
The 49ers (1-5) hit the road for the first time in two weeks as they visit Montana State (3-1) out of the Big Sky Conference. The Bobcats are getting 22 of their 63 points per game from senior forward Claire Lundberg. These schools have split their four meetings, and Montana State has won the last two.
SATURDAY
Long Beach State Men’s Basketball at San Diego, 7 p.m.
After visiting USC on Wednesday night, LBSU is headed south to take on San Diego (5-1) out of the West Coast Conference. The Toreros already have quality wins over Washington and Colorado. Senior forward Isaiah Pineiro is averaging 22 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
SUNDAY
Long Beach State Women’s Basketball at No. 3 Oregon, 2 p.m.
This might be the toughest test of the season for LBSU. Oregon (6-0) already has a quality win over No. 18 Syracuse, and beat UC Riverside 94-44 last week. The Ducks have five players averaging double digit scoring this season. LBSU has lost its last six of 11 games against Oregon.
