The St. Anthony girls’ volleyball team grabbed a big win on the road on Tuesday evening, pulling a narrow upset over No. 8-seeded Taft in the CIF State Division 3 girls’ volleyball playoffs. The Saints were able to beat the home team 25-22, 25-20, 19-25, 27-25.
The Saints were on the verge of a sweep but were able to close it out in four.
“We’re excited to be moving on,” said Saints coach Alicia Lemau’u.
St. Anthony was led by 16 kills from Tiare Jennings, who also chipped in 12 digs. Sam Ashworth had 10 kills and five blocks while Isabella Bareford had 48 assists and eight digs.
The Saints will now get a shot at the team that knocked them out of the semifinals of the CIF-SS playoffs, Ontario Christian. St. Anthony will travel to Ontario Christian on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. to face the top seed in the bracket.
