Coming off one of their worst seasons in recent years, everything seems to be going as planned for the Avalon Lancers 8-Man football team this season. Avalon (3-0) has blowout wins over Desert Christian and Brethren Christian, and also beat Rolling Hills Prep 32-26 in overtime of a battle between perennial league champions.
Avalon is back on the road this against Hillcrest Christian in a nonleague battle between undefeated teams. The Saints (3-0) have outscored its opponents 146-24 while racking up 262.7 yards rushing per game. Junior John Overby is the Hillcrest Christian quarterback and leads the defense with 27 total tackles.
Senior Jason Campos leads Avalon with 230 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Senior Cristobal Hernandez has a team-high 25 total tackles, and is among the nations leaders with 13.5 sacks.
Avalon is ranked No. 15 in California, according to MaxPreps, and Hillcrest Christian is ranked No. 33.
