The Moore League opener tonight at Wilson between the Bruins and visiting Cabrillo Jaguars features two teams coming off of important blowout victories. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Wilson (2-2) is riding a two-game winning streak after finding its offense in a 52-14 win over St. Anthony last week. The Bruins were hampered by self-inflicted wounds in the first two lopsided losses of the season, and coach Mark Ziegenhagen said his team has improved by keeping things simple.
“We are definitely a different team in the last couple of weeks,” he said. “We’re growing and getting better. I knew we could be a good team that competes each week, it just took guys believing and trusting their technique and teammates around them.”
Ziegenhagen applauded his offensive line for stabilizing the offense, and a switch to a 3-4 defense has improved the defense.

Cabrillo (1-3) got its first win of the season last week in a 33-0 romp of Compton Centennial. Senior Feso Kaowili scored three touchdowns in the win, including a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown. He also led the defense with 10 tackles.
“Cabrillo looks good and they have some decent size,” Ziegenhagen said. “We have to respect them and come to play this week.”
Wilson has won the last three meetings with Cabrillo.
