Last season is one Avalon football wants to forget. After going a combined 30-2 over three consecutive seasons, and winning a CIF 8-man State Championship, the Lancers were 2-6 last year while missing the postseason for the first time since since 2010.
More than half of the players on the Avalon roster are seniors, but Cristo Hernandez is the only senior captain. The tight end and linebacker will be supported by sophomore captains Beto Martinez, Jose Gomez and Jose Silva. Martinez is a receiver and defensive back. Gomez is the quarterback. Silva will play offensive and defensive line.
Avalon opens its season at home on Aug. 31 against Desert Christian. The Lancers host Lutheran from La Verne on Oct. 26 in the regular season finale.
