The No. 17 Long Beach State won the first game of its Big West Conference doubleheader at LBSU Softball Complex on Saturday with a walkoff hit from Nichole Fry. Jessica Flores out did that by pitching her first career no-hitter in the second game. Fry had the only RBI in the 1-0 win.
LBSU (37-9, 11-2) trailed 2-0 in the first game after Cal Poly (22-21, 6-8) chased starter Cielo Meza in the fifth inning. Fry scored Grayce Majam in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half.
LT Torres started the seventh with a double, and Majam followed with a double of her own to tie the game 2-2. After a sacrifice bunt and a walk put runners on the corners, Fry hit a ball to left field to bring home the 3-2 winning run in Majam.
In the second game, Flores (9-1) allowed just three base runners on two walks and an error. She was hit by a pitch in the third, and after a single moved her to second, Fry plated her with a single for her third RBI of the day.
LBSU closes the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday and seniors Hannah Cookson, LT Torres, Julia Lombardi, Jessica Flores, Grayce Majam, Rachel Loera, Lauren Lombardi and Lauren MacLeod will be honored after the contest.
