The Long Beach City College softball team came up with one of the biggest upsets of the season on Saturday. The Vikings (14-10, 1-3) scored five runs in the eighth inning to knock off defending state champion Cypress on the road 6-3.It was the first home loss for Cypress in 44 games.
LBCC pitcher Alyssa Cienfuegos picked up the complete game victory while scattering seven hits and striking out three. The two teams went to extra innings tied at 1-1. Wilson High alum Jennifer Tobar’s two-run capped the scoring in the decisive eighth inning.
LBCC visits Chaffey on Tuesday and hosts Mt. San Antonio on Thursday. Mt. SAC is ranked No. 4 California.
